SURVIVING CHRISTMAS
Hey there fellow skeptics,
I know the struggle of dealing with mental health issues during the festive
season. The pressure to be jolly and full of holiday spirit can feel suffocating,
especially when you're struggling to even get out of bed in the morning.
But here's the thing - you don't have to isolate yourself from humanity just to
survive Christmas. You can actually enjoy this time of year, even with the
noise and chaos that comes with it.
First of all, let's address the elephant in the room - the pressure to be
happy. It's okay if you're not feeling the holiday cheer. It's okay to not be
okay. You don't have to force yourself to be something you're not. Accepting
where you're at mentally is the first step to finding some peace during this
time.
Now, let's talk about setting boundaries. You don't have to attend every party
or family gathering if it's going to drain you emotionally. It's okay to say no
and prioritize your mental well-being. Create a plan for the holiday season
that works for you, whether it's spending time with close friends or having a
quiet night in.
But here's the flip side - isolating yourself completely can also be damaging.
Instead of shutting yourself off from humanity, try reaching out to someone you
trust. Share how you're feeling and lean on your support system during this
time. You don't have to go through this alone.
And lastly, find joy in the little things. Maybe it's watching your favorite
holiday movie, indulging in some festive treats, or simply taking a walk
outside to soak in the holiday lights. Finding moments of joy, even small ones,
can make a huge difference in how you experience Christmas.
So, to my fellow skeptics struggling with mental health, know that it's
possible to enjoy Christmas without isolating yourself from humanity. It's okay
to not be okay, but it's also possible to find some peace and joy during this
time. You deserve to experience the holiday season in a way that feels
authentic to you. And remember, it's okay to reach out for help if you need it.
You are not alone. Let's find a way to enjoy Christmas on our own terms.
