IF THE DEVIL WANTED TO DESTROY YOU, HERE'S EXACTLY HOW HE WOULD DO IT

Have you ever stopped to think about how the devil would take you out if he really wanted to? It’s probably not in the way you’d expect. He’s not going to come charging at you with flashing lights and obvious attacks. No, the enemy is far too strategic for that.

If the devil wanted to destroy you, he would target the places you least expect—the cracks in your faith, the unhealed wounds in your heart, the habits you keep hidden, or the thoughts you try to ignore. His strategy isn’t loud—it’s subtle, personal, and designed to make you stumble in the very area you feel the weakest.

So here’s the question you have to ask yourself: if the devil came for you today… would he find you fortified, or wide open?

The Enemy Studies You

Scripture tells us the devil prowls around “like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Lions don’t chase the strongest in the herd; they look for the weak, the isolated, the distracted. In the same way, the enemy watches to see where you are most at risk.

  • If you struggle with pride, he will whisper lies to inflate your ego until it destroys your relationships.

  • If you battle with lust, he’ll tempt you with what looks harmless until it grips your soul.

  • If you wrestle with fear or anxiety, he’ll magnify worst-case scenarios until you feel paralyzed.

  • If your weakness is people-pleasing, he’ll make you compromise your convictions for the sake of acceptance.

That’s why in the Bible we are often referred to as sheep—because sheep are vulnerable, easily led astray, and need a shepherd to guide, protect, and keep them from danger. The enemy knows this, which is why he studies us and looks for ways to separate us from the Shepherd.

The Subtle Approach

The devil rarely tries to take you out in one big blow. He works gradually. A compromise here, a little bitterness there, a distraction that slowly steals your focus from God. Before long, you may find yourself drifting further than you ever thought possible.

Guarding Against His Strategy

The good news is this: the enemy has a strategy, but so does God. The Bible tells us to put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:11). That means being intentional about your prayer life, your community, your boundaries, and your time in the Word.

  • Stay watchful—pay attention to your triggers and weak spots.

  • Stay connected—don’t isolate yourself from the body of Christ.

  • Stay rooted—let God’s Word be the final authority in your life.

  • Stay honest—confess your struggles, don’t hide them.

Fortify Your Heart

If the devil were going to take you out, how would he do it? The truth is, he often targets the areas you leave unguarded. But when you fortify your heart with God’s Word, prayer, and the guidance of the Shepherd, those weaknesses become your strongest defenses.

Remember, as sheep, we are vulnerable—but we are not helpless. Stay close to the Shepherd, let Him lead you, protect you, and guide your steps. Shine His light on every hidden corner of your life, and what the enemy meant for harm can be transformed into your testimony of victory.

Today, guard your heart, follow the Shepherd, and turn every weakness into a testimony of victory!
