ARE YOU CALLING GOD BY HIS NAME?
Most people pray to “God” without ever really knowing His name. But did you know that knowing God’s name isn’t just about words—it’s about access, intimacy, and power? Just as your name carries identity and authority, God’s name reveals who He truly is and invites you into a personal relationship with Him. In this post, we’ll explore the profound truth of God’s name and why calling on Him correctly can change your life.
One of the most profound truths in Scripture is that God is not distant, impersonal, or merely a force in the universe. God has a name. A name carries identity, authority, and relationship. Knowing God’s name is more than memorizing words—it is an invitation into intimacy with the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
Think about it for a moment: how would you feel if people referred to you only as “woman,” “man,” or “I am something you will never understand”? It feels distant, impersonal, and incomplete. Yet, many approach God in the same way—as if His name doesn’t matter. But God’s name matters because it reveals His character, authority, and desire for relationship with us.
In Exodus 3:14, when Moses asked God for His name, God replied: “I AM WHO I AM.” This is not just a phrase—it is the declaration of God’s eternal, self-sufficient, and unchanging nature. God is saying, “I am everything you need, always, in every circumstance.”
God’s personal name, revealed in Hebrew as Yahuah, is the name of the Father. The only way to enter into Yahuah’s kingdom is through Yahusha HaMashiach, Lord and Savior. Through Yahusha HaMashiach, we are reconciled to Yahuah and receive eternal life.
The Spirit of God also has a Hebrew name: Ruach HaKodesh, meaning Spirit of Holiness. Ruach HaKodesh is our guide, comforter, and helper, sent by Yahuah through Yahusha HaMashiach to dwell in the hearts of believers. Knowing the names of the Father, Son, and Spirit deepens our relationship with God and strengthens our faith.
Throughout the Bible, God reveals His identity through various names, each reflecting His character:
-
Yahweh (LORD) – The self-existent One, faithful and everlasting.
-
El Shaddai (God Almighty) – The all-powerful One who provides and protects.
-
Jehovah Jireh (Yahuah Will Provide) – The One who sees our needs before we do.
-
Jehovah Rapha (Yahuah Who Heals) – The One who restores body, mind, and spirit.
Knowing God’s name is not just about information—it is about access. Jesus said in John 14:13–14:
"And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask for anything in my name, and I will do it."
To call on God’s name is to engage His presence, authority, and promises. Many people pray, hoping God will hear, but few understand the power of calling on God’s name with faith and reverence. When calling the name in truth, we are not just speaking words—we are connecting with the eternal, all-powerful, loving God who is personal and near.
So today, reflect on this truth: Father is Yahuah; Son is Yahusha HaMashiach; Spirit is Ruach HaKodesh. Through knowing these names, we can experience the fullness of God’s presence, power, and love. Don’t just call on God in moments of need—know His name, trust His character, and embrace a deep, personal relationship with Him.
Prayer:
Father Yahuah, thank You for revealing Your name and desire for relationship with us. Thank You for sending Ruach HaKodesh to guide and comfort us, and for Yahusha HaMashiach, Lord and Savior, through whom we have access to Your kingdom. Help me to honor Your name and walk faithfully in Your ways. In Yahusha’s name, Amen.
