WE DON'T REALLY LOVE GOD - WE JUST USE HIM
Have you ever stopped and wondered if we truly love God… or if we’ve just learned how to use Him?
It’s uncomfortable. It stings a little. But if we’re honest, many of us grew up treating God like an emergency exit — a backup plan, a provider on-call, a healer when sickness strikes, a door-opener when we’re stuck, a miracle worker when life doesn’t make sense.
But love? Real love? The kind that changes how we live?
That kind of love often feels missing.
We Used to Show It With Clothing… But Was It Really Love?
Many of us remember the days when we had special clothes only for church.
We didn’t wear them to school.
Not to a party.
Not even for family gatherings.
Only God’s house was worthy of them.
That tradition wasn’t perfect — but it represented something powerful:
➡️ Honor.
➡️ Reverence.
➡️ Awareness that God mattered.
Today, we wear what’s convenient — physically and spiritually.
Our prayers are rushed.
Our worship depends on our mood.
Our church attendance depends on the weather, sleep schedule, or football game.
We say, “God knows my heart.”
But maybe that’s the problem—He does.
We Love God’s Blessings… But Do We Love His Presence?
Most believers today can ask God for something faster than they can thank Him.
We pray:
-
“God fix it.”
-
“God open the door.”
-
“God protect me.”
-
“God bless me.”
But rarely:
-
“Lord, what do You want from me?”
-
“How can I serve You?”
-
“What in me needs to change?”
We want His hand… but not His heart.
We want His benefits… without His boundaries.
We want His miracles… without His lordship.
Love Requires Relationship — Not Convenience
God is not a spare tire.
Not a subscription service.
Not a genie.
He is Father.
King.
Creator.
Savior.
Lord.
Love means:
-
Showing up when we don’t feel like it.
-
Worshiping when life isn’t perfect.
-
Obeying even when it’s uncomfortable.
-
Spending time with Him with no agenda.
Because real love isn’t measured in moments of desperation—
it’s measured in moments of devotion.
So Here’s the Question…
Do we love God?
Or do we love what God does for us?
It’s time to return to the kind of faith where:
-
God isn’t optional.
-
Worship isn’t casual.
-
Prayer isn’t rushed.
-
Holiness isn’t outdated.
-
Relationship isn’t transactional.
A Call to Action
This week, take one intentional step to love God—not out of need, habit, or guilt—but out of devotion.
Here are three simple ways to begin:
-
Give God uninterrupted time.
Not while driving, not while multitasking—just you and Him.
-
Honor Him with one thing you’ve neglected.
Maybe consistency in prayer, worship, Bible reading, or returning to church.
-
Tell Him—not just with words, but with action—“Lord, I love You.”
Because love is proven by pursuit.
Give God uninterrupted time.
Not while driving, not while multitasking—just you and Him.
Honor Him with one thing you’ve neglected.
Maybe consistency in prayer, worship, Bible reading, or returning to church.
Tell Him—not just with words, but with action—“Lord, I love You.”
Maybe It’s Time to Fall in Love With Him Again.
Not because of what He gives.
Not because of what He fixes.
Not because of what He opens.
But simply because…
He is God — and He is worthy.
